I walked by this the other day. The front has an indent where the badge would be (shaped like a shield like Porsche's) and no marking elsewhere. The finish isn't great so it might be a kit car!

That's the name you're looking for.

It's a GTM K3. Little fibreglass kit car with a removable hard top, built in England and powered by a K-series 4 pot engine in the middle.

I read K-series and immediately thought of Honda. Then I did some research and discovered it's a Rover K-Series, and a little bit of disappointment set in. If this thing had a Honda K-Series it would be awesome!

I wouldn't be all that disappointed. The Rover K-Series is a bit of a little monster itself. It's got a really innovative through-bolted sandwich construction that combined with its alloy construction makes it really really light (if completely intolerant of overheating).
The early engines were 1.1l and 1.6l (with decent outputs for the day). Later engines expanded that to 1.4l and 1.8l, and then later revisions added variable valve timing on top of that.
The 1.8l VVC for instance made 160bhp, which is bloody good for the early '00s, and the Lotus-tuned variant made between 177 and 192bhp.
Not as meaty as a Honda K-Series (as I4s go), but bloody impressive for sub 2.0l.
